sobre lisboa e os portugueses, por uma amiga escocesa

"Public transport is really good though, so perhaps somewhere less central would be ok. Plus, Lisbon is really nice to walk around anyway.
My favourite bit is the Bairro Alto, which has loads of brilliant little bars, but might not be the best part to stay in. You must head there for a night out though.
We did some good day trips along the coast to Cascais and into the hills to Sintra - both really easy by train. Food-wise, the portuguese are pretty carnivorous, but they also do some incredibly good fishy things (the traditional salty cod in garlic and olive oil is amazing) but you can pretty well get any nationality of food you want. I'd also recommend the famous custard tarts from Belem - yum. You won't go thirsty either, the coffee is great, the beer is great (Superbock and Sagres) and there are loads of Brazilians, so you're never far away from a Caipirinha. Oh, and the port is lovely, of course."
